In cooperation with NRECA and other allies in the rural telecommunications community, NRTC often contacts members of Congress, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Rural Utilities Service (RUS), and other federal agencies on behalf of its members. NRTC is prepared to share its experience and background information to help guide legislators and policymakers toward actions that will encourage rural community development and enhance the lives of rural residents. July 10, 2007 NRTC favors steps to facilitate low-cost loans to broadband satellite service providers in comments to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service on proposed changes to its Broadband Loan Program. May 31, 2007 NRTC files reply comments in the FCC's Notice of Inquiry on Section 706 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 reviewing whether broadband service is reaching all Americans in a reasonable and timely fashion (GN Docket No. 07-45). NRTC urges the Commission to consider the value of satellite Internet providers to remote rural areas as it considers changing the definitions of "broadband" and "high-speed" Internet access. April 2, 2007 NRTC comments in response to question of whether the FCC should sunset its program access rules (MB Docket No. 07-29) argue that the rules remain vitally important to ensuring that new competitors can enter the multichannel video program distribution business.
